TPIC Terms of Reference
Name
The name of this chapter has been expanded from The Toronto Practitioners of Infection Control (TPIC) to CHICA-TPIC to reflect our professional relationship to CHICA-Canada. (September 1988). CHICA-TPIC is a chapter of CHICA-Canada, functioning under the by-laws enacted by CHICA-Canada.
Mission Statement
To be the authoritative body promoting excellence in the principles and practice of infection prevention and control in health care institutions and in the community through education, communication, networking, research and public awareness.
Objectives
1. To promote and maintain a forum for practitioners in infection prevention and control and other allied professionals in the community and in hospitals to network and share ideas.
2. To share knowledge and expertise with health care workers to minimize the incidence of nosocomial and community acquired infections; thereby improving patient outcomes.
3. To participate and spearhead in multidisciplinary educational conferences, seminars and workshops to disseminate information among members thus promoting professional excellence through continuing education i.e. Critical Care, Long Term Care.
4. To enhance the practice of infection prevention and control by encouraging certification among members. Accomplished through bi annual membership audit.
5. To provide information and resources for members to assist in the development of individual infection control programs and problem solving.
6. To promote and support research activities and publication of professional articles.
7. To promote CHICA-Canada as the national body of experts in infection prevention and control.
8. To promote CHICA-TPIC as the local experts in infection prevention and control.
9. To heighten community awareness through education on infections, their mode of transmission, prevention and control and the implications on the health of the community.
CHICA-Canada-Chapters – Terms of Reference
POLICY:
1. A local chapter is a group of individuals organized for the purpose of promoting the general and specific goals of CHICA-Canada.
2. Chapters are authorized by CHICA-Canada and are organized and operated in accordance with the rules and regulations established by CHICA-Canada, without conflict to CHICA-Canada By-laws.
3. Failure to comply with the above will result in the revocation of the charter authorizing the chapter.
4. The name of the chapter will follow CHICA-Canada in the title of the local organization. Any changes in name of the chapter must be approved by the National Board.
